Post-Upgrade Volume Anomaly Detection
After each reader image upgrade, data volumes in the 1-hour and 6-hour windows are compared with the previous day and unusual volumes trigger an alert.
Upgrades are a critical part of improving infrastructure, but they're also a common point of failure. Even with thorough tests, subtle issues can sneak through and quietly impact data pipelines.
This release introduces an automated guardrail: real-world volume checks that run after each reader image upgrade to catch anything unusual, fast.
Whenever a reader is upgraded, Artie now monitors data volumes processed in the 1-hour and 6-hour windows post-upgrade - and compares them to the same periods from the previous day. If something looks suspicious (too little or too much data), we alert the team immediately.
It's an extra layer of safety that catches problems before they break downstream systems.
Why this matters
- Adds automated verification to a high-risk moment in pipeline lifecycle
- Catches subtle issues that may pass tests but impact real-world throughput
- Prevents silent regressions after reader image upgrades
- Alerts proactively so teams can respond before downstream impact
- Builds trust in Artie's upgrade process for mission-critical pipelines
